Rui Lopes is a fine art photographer with a great eye for detail and an uncanny ability to find the soul of a place or a moment. He also happens to be my uncle.

His most recent exhibit, titled 'Carved Open', is a stunning collection of photographs taken in his travels through Tibet and Nepal, accompanied by his son, Ruy Jr., who has also produced some excellent work. Together, they paint a picture of a land in which the people are so in tune with their surroundings that they appear to be made of the same stuff — which is, of course, the real truth about the human race.

So, if you're interested in the truth, I recommend a pilgrimage to 2100 Bloor St. West (the System Fitness building), in Toronto, to see their show. The opening reception is at 7:30pm on Saturday, October 27th, and the exhibit will be open the public every day thereafter until November 30th, between 9am and 7pm.

You can also have a look at some of Rui's previous work on his website, or watch a video about his recent travels.
